Walking out of a bank this afternoon, I had some trouble opening the door. It was an automatic door, and it had sensed that I was trying to open it, albeit manually and at a different speed. In shopping this Christmas season, I’m astounded by the amount of graphical iconography in downtown Toronto these days. Like branding, does the use of ubiquitous icons simplify meaning into cute, recognizable designs?
